William Gropper
Kelly and I were in this antique shop this past weekend and i saw this beautiful print and bought it. I went home and looked up the artist and it turns out that William Gropper is pretty well known all over the world. He was a social realist painter (think Diego Rivera) and I totally dig his stuff. check out theses websites.

Ensor made me do it
So Kelly gave me this great book on james ensor for christmas. this guy is really wacky and i love it. his work has inspired me in painting and now his drawings are getting me into drawing again. painting has always been my pleasure and i have yet to lose intrest in it or at least take a break from it. however, this hasn't been the case for drawing. i have gone through month long periods of not drawing and not missing it a single bit. after looking at ensor's drawings i am refreshed. they incorporate observation soaked in imagination. He masterfully fuses reality with the spiritual and metaphysical. Its wonderful. Here are a few images from the book. ensor has made me excited about drawing again!

The Only Chevy I Would Ever Buy
SuperMario Kart vs. Art Making
"I'm all out of faith, this is how I feel. I'm cold and I am ashamed lying naked on the floor, [playing super mario kart, thinking about art] I am already torn...Torn" -Natalie Imbruglia
There are many things that enrich our lives. What happens when two valuable activities clash and wage war over a person?
Kelly and I recently purchased Nintendo 64 along with Mario Kart after we returned from Christmas break. I hope this doesn’t turn out to be the distraction that keeps me from holier pursuits.
Aliens of The Deep
Just watched a fascinating documentary on exploring the deep crevasses of my anus I mean the ocean floor. Lots of odd beautiful creatures are down in there (that is the ocean floor), living without the sun, deriving life from heat and oxygen produced by these Dr. Seuss looking pipes called hydrothermal vents. The film is all about how we can learn about possible life on other planets by exploring and studying the deepest parts of our oceans.
Oh by the way, the top picture is real!
